Learning To Evoke
Without (Being Bored To) Tears

The typical approach to evocation is taken straight from purposely obfuscated grimoires, making only the most minor changes like exchanging precious metals for easier to obtain symbolic representations of them or exchanging the Judeo-Christian pantheon for a pagan one. Evocation does not have to be so involved, and it does not have to be such a dense activity. There are reasons of functionality for the complicatedness of those rituals, but contrary to popular opinion they are not requisite for an evocation.

The following represents a highly effective method for evocation that does not require you to wade through the English of a bygone era or memorize lengthy prayers, invocations, or ritual procedures. There are advantages to these procedures not found in traditional approaches aside from being able to get started almost immediately there is room for a high degree of meaningful alteration as opposed to only a limited substitution. Other benefits will become evident as we cover the ritual itself. I'll present a set of instructions here devoid of theory, those interested in the basic theory behind the practice can check out the following:

Evocation Using The Tesser-Act

There are a few things you'll need to set up prior to the start of your ritual. The most obvious is a sigil or some other symbolic representation of the entity you're attempting to evoke. Next you'll need a Necker's Cube, which is a cube drawn by connecting overlapping squares with diagonal lines. You'll also need a representation of the tesser-act, there are several variations all will suffice, though I personally prefer this one:

Those are (almost) bare bones instructions, feel free to personalize the ritual, in fact I encourage it.

1. Place The Necker's Cube near the tesser-act sigil.

2. Focus solely on the Necker's Cube until it appears to flip into it's mirror image. This is done to increase your awareness of the fourth dimension as the only way to turn a cube into its own mirror image is by rotating it through the forth dimension. Mentally tug at the corner of the cube if you're having problems creating this illusion. The goal is to reach a point where the cube is flipping fluidly.

3. Change your focus to the tesser-act.

4. While focusing on the tesser-act deliver an incantation. This can be something you write and memorize or something you improvise on the spout. The purpose of this incantation is to create actually create at the tesser-act you'll be using. The only key element is that you use a word which has the ability to break the tesser-act.

At this point it's worth noting you can use this tesser-act in a variety of way. You can use it like a 4d magickal barrier separating you from the time and space of the entity, putting well beyond harms reach. You can instead choose to enclose the entity in the hypercube. You can do both which gives an approximation of using both a magickal circle and the triangle of art used in the more popular text dealing with evocation, The Goetia. Whichever method you choose the following steps, which I'll organize by approach, should be done after the first four steps are completed.

To Enclose Yourself:

1. After the incantation visualize a square rising from the picture of the tesser-act, inside that square is a rotating square of the same size. This might be hard to picture, if so refer to the following image to get an idea of it.

2. Visualize this square (which is incidentally another variation of a tesseract) growing to a size which is suitable for your work, surrounding you completely. Don't forget it should extend to a bit below your feet. Take a minute to walk around and center the tesser-act on you. Unlike a traditional magick circle, the hyper dimensional quality of this barrier allows it to pass over and through three dimensional objects without violating any of its sides.

3. When you're ready focus on the symbol of the entity you're trying to evoke. After a few moments of intense focus deliver an incantation designed to get the entity to appear.

4. Do whatever it is you had in mind with the entity.

5. Banish the entity.

6. Speak the word that breaks the hypercube. You may elect to combine 5 and six by instructing your tesser-act to explode outward during it's creation phase.

7. Should things still feel a bit hinky, banish again with laughter.

To Enclose The Entity:

1. There is actually very little that is different from the above procedures. Instead of centering the tesser-act over yourself, center it over the symbolic representation of the entity. When the entity shows its stuck inside the tesser-act until you release it. Many methods call for threats or actual punishments of disobedient entities. Should you wish to incorporate this, threaten to send the hypercube to the center of the earth, or the cold depths of space until it decides to be more agreeable. You'll definitely want instruct the tesser-act to implode or explode when you utter your word so it will act as a banishing. Another option is to visualize the tesser-act taking the entity back to wherever it came from, and then once its there speak the word to release the entity.

To Enclose Both Yourself And The Entity:

I'm sure you can figure it out. =p
